Germany lost to France by suicide goal (UEFA EURO 2020, France vs Germany): In another match, with the help of a suicide goal from Mats Hummels, who returned to the German team, France defeated the hosts 1-0. Experienced defender Hamels was included in the squad for this tournament by German coach Joachim Louv but his return was not a memorable one. 

He accidentally threw the ball into his net in an attempt to prevent Lucas Hernandez's cross from reaching French forward Kylian Mbappe in the 20th minute. Louv, however, said, "I can't blame him. It was unlucky. The ball was very fast and it was not easy to get it out.


Both teams made several attempts to score, and France's two goals were declared offside in the second half. The first was done by Mbappe and the second by Karim Benzema. Benzema was playing his first competitive match for France after losing to Germany in the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup. Germany will now face Portugal while France will play Hungary in Budapest.
