Madrid's

famous computer anti-virus software developer John McAfee ( John McAfee ) has committed suicide in prison in Spain. On the same day, a Spanish court allowed him to be extradited to the US for tax evasion. It is feared that McPhee committed suicide after being upset by this court's decision.

Spain's Catalan Justice Department reported that 75-year-old John McPhee was found dead in his cell at the Bryans 2 prison in Barcelona on Wednesday afternoon.

McAfee wanted in the US for tax evasion

Spanish officials say preliminary investigations suggest his death appears to be a clear suicide. McAfee is a wanted criminal in the US for tax evasion.

After the approval of the Spanish court, he would have to face charges according to US law. Had he been found guilty, he could have been jailed for 30 years.

Lawyer Confirmed Suicide

His lawyer, Javier Villalba, explained that McPhee still had opportunities to appeal his sentence, but he could not stay in prison for long.

Villalba alleged that his death was the result of a cruel system that had no reason to keep this man in prison for so long. His lawyer also confirmed that McPhee committed suicide by hanging himself in his prison cell.

McPhee, who was arrested in October last year, was arrested in October 2020. Since then he has been in prison in Spain. McPhee has also been accused of killing his American neighbor in Belize. However, this allegation could not be proved in court. Shortly after his arrest last year, McPhee tweeted that if he died by alleged suicide in prison, he would be blamed for conspiracy.
