Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday termed the introduction of a record number of doses of anti-Covid vaccine in the country as a "delightful" act and said that the vaccine is the strongest weapon in the fight against the pandemic. 


According to the Union Health Ministry, more than 80 lakh vaccines have been administered till 8 pm today (June 21) on the first day of implementation of the revised guidelines of Kovid Vaccination.

Home Minister Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a very big and historic decision of free vaccination of all citizens of the country with a population of 135 crores, which has also been implemented across the country on the occasion of Yoga Day.

The Union Health Ministry said that on the first day of the revised guidelines for Kovid-19 vaccination, more than 80 lakh doses of vaccine were administered across the country on Monday. This is the highest dose of vaccine administered in a single day since the vaccination campaign started on 16 January. 


Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi had said, "The central government is starting a 'free vaccination for all' campaign for every Indian from today. The biggest beneficiaries of this phase of India's vaccination campaign will be the country's poor, middle class, and youth. We all should take a pledge to get ourselves vaccinated. Together we will defeat Kovid-19. 


Vaccination campaign picks up pace after revised guidelines


As per the revised guidelines, the dose of vaccine provided free of cost by the Center will be allocated to the states and union territories based on parameters like population, level of spread of the disease and progress of vaccination, etc. Vaccine wastage will harm allocation. 


The Government of India will procure 75 percent of the anti-Covid vaccines from manufacturers located in the country. It had earlier allowed states and private hospitals to procure 50 percent of the vaccines. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 8 announced amendments to the vaccine guidelines after several states complained of some problems, including funding. 


Know what was said in the revised guidelines 


The revised guidelines said, "The procured vaccines will be made available free of cost to the states and union territories continuously as has been the case since the inception of the National Immunization Programme. 


These doses will be administered by the States/UTs free of cost to all citizens on a priority basis through Government Immunization Centers. Union Territories can set their priorities in the vaccine supply program.


These guidelines stated that to encourage production and new vaccines by vaccine manufacturers, domestic vaccine manufacturers have also been given the option of providing vaccines directly to private hospitals which shall not exceed 25 percent of their monthly production.


In line with these guidelines, States/UTs will collect demand from private hospitals given equitable distribution of vaccines between large and small private hospitals and regional balance. 


The guidelines stated that the price of vaccine doses for private hospitals would be announced by each vaccine manufacturer, and any subsequent changes would be notified in advance. The revised guidelines stated that all citizens are entitled to free vaccination, irrespective of their income, and those who can pay are encouraged to use vaccination centers of private hospitals. is. 


To promote the spirit of 'public welfare', the use of non-transferable electronic vouchers will be encouraged, which can be redeemed at private immunization centers, it said. This will enable people to help financially for the immunization of economically weaker sections at private immunization centers.
